I am So Mad About Social Non-Marketing

Well, I not really mad, amused maybe, but would like to clarify. Ok, we have all heard it before “social media is for making connections, not for marketing products.” Please. President Obama sells his economic and political agenda on Facebook and Twitter, Lady Gaga and Britney Spears sell their concerts, on social channels, Coca-Cola sells well, Coke. Facebook and Linkedin have advertising programs, (good ones), that you can use for display ads. And on and on. Yes the embryonic social media space is fully commercialized. It’s as commercial as magazines, television, newspapers, billboards, radio and cocktail napkins, (well the ones with ads on them). So forget about a non commercial social media channel. But as Buffalo Springfield would say “something’s happening here, what it is ain’t exactly clear.” So, let’s wipe off the windshield and try to make some sense of it.

1. GOOGLE+ JOINS THE FRAY – Expect to see more and more social channels emerge, most will fail (although not Google+), so focus on what has critical mass today. That would be Facebook, YouTube, Twitter and Linkedin. Rule number 1 – Focus.

2. READ YOUR TOC’S – Build a great page, fan base or whatever and then get…

I Google+ circled, followed, liked, linked, bookmarked you, now what?

by Pam Moore
Wow, is it me or is it starting to be more and more steps to follow someone.

We round em’ up in circles. We click the Facebook like, send and share buttons. We accept or invite them to LinkedIn. And if they’re lucky we may even opt-in to their email list via their blog or website.

So now that we have spent half a morning circling, liking, following and plussing people what will we do with all those we liked, followed, plussed and circled yesterday? Or how about the 15 we did the same thing to the day before? And the day before. And the day before that?

A tweet, Google+, or Facebook post grabs our attention. Within seconds we get lost in never ever ending like land.

But why do we like! Why do we circle? Do we really like them? Or do we circle them so they will circle us?

Our time is our greatest asset. Even the moments you spend roundin’ up peeps via clicks, like and circles should be spent wisely!

Do more than circle, like & follow. Are you reading what you like? Do you know or even like the person you…

Tech Crunch Q&A w/ Barry Horowitz + Vic Gundotra

Miss the TechCrunch Q&A with +Bradley Horowitz (Google’s VP Product) and +Vic Gundotra (Google’s VP Social)? Transcribed some of the most interesting quotes below.

Why is Google+ called a “project”?
VG: Project we think implies a longer term effort. We think project is more inclusive. We’re going to build this thing together with the community, with various parts of Google, and we’re pretty excited about it.

Are you the fathers of Google+?
BH: This project involved many, many people, a lot of talented people on the team that have been pouring their enthusiasm, their passion into this project for a long time. Vic and I have been honored to be part of that team, and sort of shepherd it along; there’s a role for us on that team, I think, but the contributions of the team itself are what make the product sing.

What is the focus of Google+?
BH: Putting people first. Understanding that the Web is more than a Web of pages, or even a Web of apps, it’s a Web of people. People is the fabric that connects us together. The pages and the apps are really artifacts. If we understand people, who you know, what you…

Should Bloggers be on Google Plus?

Posted July 20, 2011 by Onibalusi Bamidele

With all the noise circulating the web about Google plus lately I think it is important for you to calculate your steps wisely and see if you’re making the right decisions as a blogger.

Since building a successful blog is all about knowing where your audience is and spending the most of your time there, it wouldn’t be wise to join the next new social media site without thinking twice.

I’ve been thinking about this lately, and I’ve been asking myself if Google+ is really the right platform for bloggers. I’ve done a lot of experiments and I’ve calculated my results, this post will be telling you what I think about Google+ and you will be able to decide if it is right for you as a blogger or not.

The Search Engine Ranking Factor

I’ve been doing a lot lately to optimize my blog posts for the search engines and to improve the number of visitors to my blog, and at the moment I’m currently averaging 5k visitors every month from the search engines. The reality is that over 99% of this traffic comes from Google and since a smart businessman will…

10 Things CMOs Need To Know About Google+

By Chris Brogan
Chris Brogan is president of Human Business Works, and co-author of the New York Times Bestseller, “Trust Agents.” He blogs at chrisbrogan.com.

First off, if you’re immediately thinking, “The LAST thing I need is to figure out yet another social network,” you’re totally right. This is the last thing you need. However, if you were fortunate enough to be a CMO back in 2007, and you said that about the transition from MySpace to Facebook, then you know what happened to people who didn’t surf the new wave instead of riding the one that petered out.

I’ve logged over 250 hours (and counting) inside Google+ so that you don’t have to, but I will say this: If people are asking for what the next big thing is for online marketing, mobile marketing, digital communications and social media, this is certainly my pick for 2011. We have to look at it. And to that end, I have 10 things for you to think about:

1. A social network made by Google impacts search. Google isn’t saying it like that, because they wouldn’t want to cause a panicking stampede, but think about this: Google has all the data…
